Chinese visa for Brethren missionary nurse, Elizabeth B. Wampler. Date of arrival Jan 16, 1947. Expired Aug. 9, 1948. Wampler was 55 years old when the visa was issued. Stamped with Chinese seals.
Wampler first went to China as a missionary nurse in 1922. She was going back to China to join her husband Ernest Wampler, who had arrived in the early 1940s through Burma to do medical relief work with famine victims. The couple were prevented from leaving China until 1950 after the Communist takeover.
