Description Also called envelope or step-in chemise. This undergarment is made of white cotton like a voluminous chemise. It is of simple construction with a front and back panel joined on the top of the shoulder with two straps. The neckline and armholes are finished with small picot crochet edging. Seams are all French seamed. The front piece is cut straight across the bottom, while the back piece curves under and attaches to the center of the front piece with three buttons. The narrow hem is fully edged with the same trim seen at the neckline. The three buttons are sewn on top of a reinforcing strip of twill tape. An identical strip of twill tape reinforces the corresponding buttonholes.
