Catalog Number 16.03.002
Date 1891?
Description Christ Pantokrator icon. Metal cover exposes only painted surfaces of Christ's face and hands. The metal was gilded but much of the gold has worn away. Christ holds the Old Testament in one hand while making a teaching or blessing gesture with his opposite hand. Metal halo and robe. Vines in background. Floral metal border. Annotation in metal at base. Possibly owned by famous murderer Nathan Leopold and given to Harold Row. Previously believed to be 18th or 19th century but stamps at bottom edge include "RB 1891" which may indicate it is newer. Also stamped "84" and "Cr." Mounted on wood covered in beige fabric. The backing may not be contemporary with the icon.
