The eight rings on the head of the gavel represent the eight people baptized in the River Eder in 1708. The five smooth rings represent the men baptized and the lined rings represent the women. Those rings are of equal size symbolizing equality. The first three rings on the handle symbolize the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
