Description Fossilized bone or fragment of a mastodon bone. Brown with darker ends. Especially porous in center and at chip on the largest end. Probably varnished or chemically treated. Older inventory note reads: A pre-historic bone from a Mastodon, a large elephant like animal, found in a clay pocket of lime rock near Gainesville, FL. Many varieties of pre-historic bones are found in this excavation. This bone seems complete and is very thick for its length.
