Betty Blough Bridgewater College scrapbook, 1941 - 1976, bulk 1941 - 1943. The scrapbook contains extensive ephemera from Betty Blough's years as a student at Bridgewater College (Bridgewater, Va.), 1941 -1945. Later ephemera is inserted in a pocket at front. Topics of ephemera include: social invitations, music, travel, and theatrical programs. Includes candid photographs of Bridgewater College student life and ephemera from her 17th and 18th birthdays. Some of the photographs and ephemera are captioned. Some items are annotated with pithy expressions written in different color pencil on or around the items. Contains several pressed botanicals. Also contains ephemera from trips to New York City and Washington D.C. Blough's main activities appeared to be Curtain Club, Glee Club and the Hillandanders hiking club. Includes a cased souvenir photograph from the Victory Room in Roosevelt Hotel, Washington, D.C., captioned as being from New Year's Eve. Includes ephemera from holidays including Christmas, Thanksgiving, Valentine's Day, Halloween and probably Sadie Hawkins Day. Laid in is a newspaper supplement announcing the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, The Evening Leader, Staunton, Va., 7 Dec 1941. The scrapbook has a brown leatherette cover. It is bound with a brown ribbon and bow. "SCRAP BOOK" appears in gilt at the center of the front cover. The rest of the cover is blind tooled. Blough later married Dr. John W. Martin Jr., also a Bridgewater College graduate, Class of 1947. |
