Collection of materials from Dr. Nelson T. Huffman, 1901 - 1992, musician, businessman and Bridgewater College (Bridgewater,Va.) music professor. The materials relate mostly to performances and musical groups at Bridgewater College where Huffman worked as a professor of music from 1925 - 1965. There are a few materials relating to Huffman's involvement in the larger musical scene of the Shenandoah Valley during the early and mid-20th century. There are also a few a few materials from his years as a student at Bridgewater College, circa 1920 - 1925. Photographs comprise the bulk of the papers. Huffman marked some of the photographs in ink or by lightly edging their fronts. The identified photographs are as follows: Print with photographs of Bridgewater College men's basketball team, letter men (Monogram Club), and Baseball team, 1921. This quartet, probably affiliated with Bridgewater College, consisted of Nelson T. Huffman, Arthur S. Huffman, Joseph F. Wine and Clifford T. Riddel. There is sheet music, including undated copies of the Bridgewater College Song (later arranged as Bridgewater Fair) by John W. Wayland and E. T. Hildebrand. There is a copy of The Bridgewater-Daleville College Bulletin, February, 1930, which is a viewbook of campus prints. Includes ephemera such as tickets, handbills and a vocal score for performances of H.M.S. Pinafore at Bridgewater College, 1962 and undated. Poster on cardstock for Bridgewater College Department of Fine Arts Graduates recital, 1933. Scheduled to performer were Madeline Long, Blanche Wright, Vera Woodie, Evelyn Shaver, Clifford T. Riddel, Jr., and D. A. Cline. Poster on cardsotck for Bridgewater College's presentation of The Messiah. December 8 and 10th, no year listed. Other ephemera includes sheet music and a pre 1968 color sheet negative of Bridgewater College's Cole Hall. Reel to reel recordings of Bridgewater College performance of H.M.S. Pinafore, 1962; Bridgewater College Glee Clubs Hymns Program 25 October, 1959; Bridgewater College Glee Clubs Hymn Program, 22 October 1961; and Bridgewater College Glee Clubs Hymn Program, 21 October 1962. In many ways, this small grouping of materials reflects the topics and arrangements of the much larger collection of Nelson T. Huffman's papers in Bridgewater College Special Collections. |
