Papers of Ann L. Earhart, a Bridgewater College (Bridgewater, Va.) junior who was one of the first Brethren Colleges Abroad (BCA, now BSA Study Abroad) participants. She and some other Bridgewater College students, a professor, and alumni went to Marburg, Germany in 1962 - 1963. The papers include Earhart's study booklets, her 1963 report, "The Community, A German Village--WEHRDA;" ephemera from her Holland-American Line trip to Germany; her passport, transcripts of excerpts from the letters that she wrote from 9 Sept to 1 Dec, 1962 reflecting on her BCA experience in Germany; transcripts of excerpts of 22 Aug - 5 Sept letters; a clipping of an article she wrote after returning to America; a 16 March 1963 "Gospel Messenger" magazine with an article by Harold D. Fasnacht. "Brethren College Year Abroad," a fact sheet on BCA 1995 - 1996; BSA alumni compilations; and German and Pennsylvania-German ephemera and 45 RPM records. The recordings feature German classical music, spoken Pennsylvania-German dialect, and German folk songs, especially illustrated charts for singing the comical song, "Schnitzelbank". The materials that Ann wrote reflecting on her experience in Germany in 1962-1963 discuss sightseeing, her classes, her student housing, and life in Germany. The clipping of the article that she wrote especially reflects on life in Germany after WWII, the division between East Berlin and West Berlin, and the rise of Communism in Berlin. |
