Land grant certificate to Lewis Circle for land near Smith Creek in Augusta County, Virginia, surveyed June 3, 1774. The Governor of Virginia, Thomas Jefferson's, signature appears three times, twice in text and once as a signature at end of document. Uncertain if in-text signatures are genuine or done by a clerk. Jefferson signed the land grand in Richmond, Virginia, March 1, 1781. Document laminated with thin laminate by conservator and framed in wood under glass. Label by Rev. Reuel B. Pritchett, circa 1954, is also framed. |
