Original Civil War letters from Jesse Rolston Jr. and his wife, Mary Catharine Cromer Rolston from near Mount Solon, Augusta County, Virginia. Although most of the letters were written from Jesse to Mary C, they also include material from other correspondents including Mary Catharine's sisters Anne and Sarah. Jesse Rolston Jr. was enlisted in Company D of the 52nd Virginia Infantry. His letters include correspondence relating to his service, capture and imprisonment as a Confederate prisoner of war at the Point Lookout Maryland, Union prison camp. He was later exchanged. |
