Three scrapbooks compiled by John G. Barr, Professor of Organ and Piano, Emeritus, Bridgewater College (Bridgewater, Va.) The scrapbooks contain materials chronicling Dr. Barr's career as an organist, professor of organ and piano, author, and composer from 1960 - 2013. Included are programs and handbills from Barr's performances, newspaper clippings about his work, newsletters and press releases. Materials include church bulletins, wedding bulletins, and funeral bulletins at which Barr performed. Correspondence to Barr regarding his work is saved in the in the scrapbooks. These include cards, letters and emails. The scrapbooks include short newsletters, especially Bridgewater College's one page, The Sounding Board. Ephemera is placed loose at the ends of the scrapbooks. Scrapbook one was made from a Norcross Christmas folio. It contains materials from 1960 - 1988. Scrapbook two is in a burgundy leatherette album with a gold border. It contains materials from 1960 - 2006, bulk 1990 - 2006. Of note is information on the dedication of the Schantz organ at Bridgewater Church of the Brethren, now Bridgewater College's Carter Center, November 15, 1998. Scrapbook three constists of materials in a spiral ring binder. It contains a mixture of materials from 1978 - 2013. |
