Description |
Long heavy black cotton dress. Church of the Brethren women's plain clothing. Believed to be worn by Katharine Flory Good, 1826 - 1912, of Rockingham County, Virginia. Machine sewn with hand sewn components. Long sleeves ending in simple notched cuffs. Simple round high collar. High slightly scalloped waist with pleats below the waist. The dress flairs from the waist, making the bottom quite wide. Black rickrack band at bottom edge. Simple 8 and 1/2 inch long hem. Brown cotton fabric lining inside hem and bodice. Pieced bodice. Bodice is open at back and closes with metal latches and clasps. Tears to fabric, some mended. Pocket added at waist. |
